Hi, I’m Richie, and I’m excited to be your mentor! I studied computer science at the University of Utah, where I earned both my BS and MS degrees. During my studies, I focused on machine learning and data science, which has been my passion ever since. After my sophomore year, I worked as a full-stack software engineer at a startup for two years, honing my skills in both front-end and back-end development. Before graduate school I interned at Microsoft, where I gained some valuable real-world experience building recommender systems. Although I’ve been published as a researcher and really enjoyed it, my real love is on the industry side.

I returned to Microsoft for three years after graduation, where I worked in both data science and software engineering roles, gaining a deep understanding of the intersection of the two fields. Currently, I work at Dropbox, where I specialize in building scalable machine learning infrastructure.

As a mentor, I’m passionate about helping others succeed in software engineering, especially on the software engineering side of machine learning.
